Arsenal are in talks with Championship outfit Newcastle United over the sale of their highly rated Dutch goalkeeper Tim Krul.

The 21-year-old Holland Under 21 International was regarded as one of the best goalkeeping prospects when he made the move from ADO Den Haag to Newcastle, but has struggled to break through. However, he has shone during loan spells with Falkirk and Carlisle and it now appears Arsène Wenger is ready to bring him back to the top flight and nurture his talents.

The 6 foot 2 inch stopper was scouted playing in the Under 17 European Championship for the Netherlands in Tuscany in May 2005, and after much speculation, Arsenal were edged to his signature by The Magpies. The 2007–2008 campaign saw Krul spend time on loan with Scottish side Falkirk where he made 22 appearances before a shoulder injury cut short his spell.

He returned to Newcastle last term but found Shay Given and Steven Harper tough prospects to overcome. Subsequently, on On the 21st of November he signed for League One Carlisle United where he made 9 appearances before returning in January as Given was sold to Manchester City.

Last month he penned a few four-year-deal with United despite their relegation from the Premier League, and celebrated the new contract by starring for the Dutch Under 21 squad that won the European Championships and also qualified for the 2008 Summer Olympics. A strong, athletic and dominate ‘keeper, Tim recently admitted his desire to seek first team football.

Krul is expected to cost around £3 million pounds and would compete with Łukasz Fabiański, Vito Mannone and Wojciech Szczęsny to be Manuel Almunia’s understudy. You can see a video of his talents below.

LONDON (AP) - Arsenal defender Kolo Toure looks set to join Manchester City after the clubs agreed on a 14-million pound ($23 million) transfer fee, a person close to the transfer talks said Tuesday.

The Ivory Coast international will head to Manchester to negotiate personal terms and to undergo a medical examination, the person told The Associated Press. He was speaking on condition of anonymity because neither club was disclosing details of the move.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger confirmed Monday night that Toure could leave the club after he featured in a preseason friendly in Hungary.

City wants Toure to bolster its central defense after failing to sign either John Terry from Chelsea or Joleon Lescott from Everton despite the club being able to offer large transfer fees and salaries.

Using owner Sheikh Mansour's wealth, City manager Mark Hughes is assembling a formidable group of players he hopes can challenge for the Premier League title, which the club hasn't won since 1968.

The 28-year-old Toure would be reunited at City with Emmanuel Adebayor, the Togo striker who left Arsenal earlier this month and is now part of a strike force including Robinho, Carlos Tevez and Roque Santa Cruz. England midfielder Gareth Barry was also bought from Aston Villa.

The departure of Toure after seven years at Arsenal would mark the end of an era for the club, as he was the last surviving member of the "Invincibles," who went unbeaten for 49 straight Premier League matches in 2003-04.

The Gunners haven't won the title since then, raising doubts about Wenger's ability to return them to winning ways.

Toure nearly left Arsenal in January after a reported spat with fellow center back William Gallas, but he withdrew a transfer request and finished out the season.

Wenger has made just one signing in the offseason: central defender Thomas Vermaelen from Ajax.

"I am more focused on getting everybody fit for the start of the season but we are looking at opportunities as well," he said. "There are still some preseason games to see what we really need. When the time comes we will do something."

Wenger will have about 40 million pounds to spend from the Adebayor and Toure sales, but he signaled earlier this month he is no rush to spend it.

The Frenchman is facing pressure to add experience to his squad after the Gunners finished in fourth place last season and spent several weeks in fifth, in jeopardy of losing out on a Champions League spot.

Arsenal hasn't won a trophy since the FA Cup in 2005.

Sky Sports News understands Kolo Toure has completed his medical at Manchester City, but a severance package has still to be agreed with Arsenal.

The Gunners defender is reported to have settled terms with the Eastlands outfit and his switch, believed to be worth in the region of ￡16million, has now moved closer.

Toure was in Manchester on Wednesday to undergo medical assessments before City fully committed to the deal.

The 28-year-old was found to be fully fit by a City medical team and he is now due to enter final discussions with the club's hierarchy.

But it is also understood that an agreement with Arsenal has yet to be reached regarding a severance package, which includes the pay and benefits owed to the Emirates Stadium club.

Toure, who joined the Gunners in 2002, still has two years remaining on his contract and a pay-off is required.

Kolo Toure has today signed for Manchester City for an undisclosed fee.

Toure (28), who joined Arsenal from Ivorian side Asec Mimosas in February 2002, made a total of 326 appearances for the Gunners, being a regular in the first team over the past seven seasons.

During his time with Arsenal, Kolo won the FA Cup in both 2003 and 2005, and was part of the ‘Invincibles’ squad who won the 2003/04 Premier League, going the entire season unbeaten.

Everyone at Arsenal Football Club wishes Kolo the best of luck for the future.

Arsenal have made their third raid of the summer on the Swiss League by adding FC Sion left back Elton Monteiro Almada to the captures of fellow defenders Martin Angha and Sead Hajrovic.

The 15-year-old powerhouse has already been in London for a trial over the summer and it now appears a deal has been struck which will see Elton complete the switch on his 16th birthday, which is in late February. Monteiro is a giant and imposing defender who has a great turn of pace and is solid in the air. He is also known to weight in with goals, something he’s done on handful of occasions for Sion’s Under 16 side.



Monteiro has been quickly promoted through the ranks at Sion as he’s been physically twice the size of most of the players in his age group. Elton was part of the side which was beaten by Martin Angha’s FC Zurich in the Nike Cup last year, and the pair will link up in a Swiss dominated Under 18’s over the coming seasons.
