Ancelotti Denies Riquelme Interest, Calls For Patience
As AC Milan's pre season continues apace, there is still the small matter of the transfer window. Many rossoneri fans are disillusioned by their club's lack of movement on the transfer front. Now, another potential target has been struck off the list, as coach Carlo Ancelotti dismisses the prospect of Juan Roman Riquelme's arrival at the San Siro...
Juan Roman Riquelme may well be on the way out of Villarreal - but he wil not be heading for Milan.
When Carlo Ancelotti was quizzed about the prospect of the Argentine's arrival, he curtly replied, "No. This prospect does not exist. I don't know how it started."
Riquelme spent the second half of last season on loan at Boca Juniors and, despite being assigned a Villarreal squad number, still seems out of favour at the Madrigal.
With his redemption coming at the Copa America, wherein he performed to a decent level, Riquelme's value has increased greatly, but that has not tempted the beaks at AC Milan to any great degree.
Instead, Ancelotti is still tracking Pato, the Brazilian wunderkind who may join the club in January.
But patience seems to be the watchword at the San Siro. Ancelotti added, "There is time until 31 August, and, of course, there is the January market.
A great player could arrive in January. There's nothing to say he has to come right now.
The Milan tifosi must believe in the value of the squad, and not worry so much about who is going to arrive. To the spirit of the current squad, they must contribute serenity." |
