We should trust the news from the journalists based on our own judgments
Since the news, no matter from the newspaper, TV, radio, internet and so on, is the only source we can rely on to obtain information. We can do nothing but accept it as true in the first place. Even though we know that nowadays news collecting and broadcasting are becoming more and more profit-driven, we should bear in mind that everything must be observed and investigated from different perspectives, and since each of the journalist can only report the news from a single perspective, we should always have our own judgments. In this sense, we can simply define those false news as those are reported from the “profit” perspective or any other perspectives that will enable the news to be false. To be true or false can only be seen as a relative concept. Everything should be judged by ourselves. As long as we judge it as true, it will be true. And this will be even more true if we make the judgments on the basis of common sense instead of personal preference.
Besides competent professional capabilities such as sensitiveness in catching the hot issues, the activeness and communicative skills in interpersonal relations and the spirit to endure hardships under harsh corresponding conditions, what is most important for a journalist is the professional ethics as a public servant. The sense of responsibility and the earnest attitude in their working to achieve responsibility are the core in the journalists’ professional ethics. The journalists should always bear in mind that their voices are not only standing for their own stances, but are loaded with the social responsibilities to give publicity. Their activities should serve as a channel for the public to know what is happening in the outside world where ordinary people cannot personally witness. And they also should know that any of their comments and arguments or even personal directions would be automatically accepted as true by the innocent public and even a tiny detail may cause misunderstanding. They should always remember that. |
