Dionisios Chiotis
Dominant in the air, Dionisios Chiotis is a highly promising goalkeeper who has matured into the No1 at AEK Athens FC, after joining the club as a youngster.
National team
A former Under-21 international, Chiotis was first selected for a Greece against the Republic of Ireland on 20 November 2002 but had yet to play ahead of the 2003/04 season.
Club
Signed initially at the age of 20 in 1997, AEK officials thought at that time he was not good enough and allowed him to leave for Ethnikos Piraeus on loan where he had the difficult task of playing behind one of the most porous defences in the league. After Ethnikos's relegation he signed for Proodeftiki where he quickly established himself as the club's first-choice keeper, AEK re-signing him in the summer of 2000. Played in both legs of AEK's 2001/02 UEFA Cup fourth-round tie against Internazionale FC, having previously produced a fine performance at Hibernian FC in the first round, although he was held back by injury early that season, he won a regular place under coach Fernando Santos, who had arrived in 2001. By the time Santos stepped down in May 2002, Chiotis was established as No1.
2002/03: Chitois impressed with his performances against Real Madrid CF and AS Roma in the UEFA Champions League, as AEK narrowly missed out on reaching the second group stage. Played 28 out of 30 league games as the club finished third in the Alpha Ethniki.
