Sir Philip Carter is Everton's most successful chairman ever.
After famously standing by Howard Kendall when the 1983-84 season started going off the rails he was able to enjoy the trophy-laden period that followed.
Sir Philip is one of the most respected men in the game and, at one stage, he was the President of the Football League.
He first assumed the role of Chairman in 1978 and passed on the reins to Dr David Marsh before the start of the 1991-92 season.
After Peter Johnson's controversial tenure in the mid-90s, Sir Philip returned to the helm to steady the ship and he stayed there until handing the job over to Bill Kenwright in 2004.
A former chief executive of Littlewoods, Sir Philip was originally brought to Everton by the former owner John Moores.
In August 2008, Sir Philip rejoined the board of directors. |
