Inter stopper Marco Materazzi may miss the Azzurri’s crucial Euro 2008 qualifier against France after picking up an injury against Hungary.
The Matrix limped off with a severely bruised thigh, but was also suffering from trauma after a Hungary player fell on top of him.
It has been reported that the ex-Perugia man vomitted after the incident, but refused to be taken to hospital in Budapest, opting to fly straight back to Italy for treatment.
The early fears are that the damage will be severe enough to not only rule Materazzi out of Inter’s opening fixtures, but also see him miss September 8’s San Siro battle against France.
“Materazzi received a serious blow when an oposition player fell on top of him,” confirmed Azzurri doctor Andrea Ferretti.
“It was a serious trauma and we will have to see how it develops in the next few hours. The recovery won’t be a matter of days and there is a real doubt that he will be back to play against France.”
The news rubs salt into the wound for Roberto Donadoni who saw his Italy side beaten 3-1 by the mediocre Magyars at the Ferenc Puskas Stadium. |
