Berlusconi: Laporta Didn't Rule Out Ronaldinho-Kaka Swap
AC Milan president Silvio Berlusconi returned to his old standby: Ronaldinho. Having kept hold of Kaka this summer, the outspoken supremo has seemingly set his sights on the Barcelona star for next summer - with his Barca counterpart Joan Laporta allegedly refusing to rule out a swap deal...
Ronaldinho and Kaka in a swap deal? According to Silvio Berlusconi, it's far from impossible.
On Sunday, Milan supremo Silvio Berlusconi speculated that he may have more luck landing Ronaldinho next year as he looks to add another star player to the San Siro ranks.
Berlusconi is quoted by the Corriere dello Sport as saying, "Milan is always interested in the great champions. And within a year, the tax situation between Italy and Spain will change, making it better.
"Ronaldinho, for the fans, continues to be a dream - almost a fever," sighed the president, who seems to have caught a dose of it himself.
Now, the controversial boss has claimed that his Barcelona opposite number, Joan Laporta, earlier claimed he was open to the idea of a swap deal between Ronaldinho and Kaka.
"During the Albertini testimonial match [March 2006, AC Milan v Barcelona, San Siro], I proposed to Laporta again a swap deal between us for Ronaldinho and Kaka.
"And he responded to me by saying, 'Why not...'"
With Ronaldinho fever in the air, and tax law on their side, it seems that the Milanese are excited about the prospects of a move next summer.
Needless to say, though, there is a danger associated with putting too much emphasis on throwaway remarks between two club presidents.
Berlusconi has this summer been criticised by a portion of the Milan fanbase for failing to land a big-name signing ahead of the new Serie A season, although the rossoneri did win the race for Brazilian wunderkind, Pato. |
