Dopo l’autorizzazione della Lega Calcio è arrivata anche quella dell’Uefa per la Champions League 2006-2007. Come richiesto da F.C. Internazionale, la maglia numero 3, quella indossata per 634 volte da Giacinto Facchetti, è stata ritirata.

Nicolas Burdisso, a partire da oggi, avrà la maglia numero 16.
“Per me è un orgoglio essere stato l’ultimo calciatore dell’Inter ad aver indossato la maglia numero 3 – dichiara il difensore argentino -. Per me è un onore cambiare oggi il numero in rispetto di Giacinto Facchetti, un uomo, e non solo un presidente, che mi è stato molto vicino quando, anch’io come uomo insieme con la mia famiglia, abbiamo attraversato un periodo difficile”.

MILAN - F.C. Internazionale has been granted permission from the Italian Football League and UEFA (for the 2006/07 Champions League) to withdraw the club's number 3 shirt, worn 634 times by Giacinto Facchetti. From Friday 8 September 2006, Argentine defender Nicolas Burdisso will wear the number 16 shirt. "I am proud to be the last Inter player to wear the number 3 shirt," Burdisso said. "I am honoured to change number today as a mark of respect for and in memory of Giacinto Facchetti, a man and not just a president, who was very close to me when I went through a difficult time with my family."
