Players are the most important part of football, if they didn’t exist, neither would football. There would just be a ball lying on a field, which would not be fun. So here is a guide to sort them out

Name - Players name, pretty easy, if you don’t understand this, you shouldn’t be allowed to live.

DOB - When he was born, the older they are the more experienced they get.

Value - How much his current value stands at, the higher this is, usually, the better they are. This can be unusually low if the player is getting on a bit, or unusually high; if the player is a young wonder-kid.

Sale Value - How much you will have to bid to prise him away from his current club.

Availability - If the player is transfer listed or not. He may also be listed for loan.

Nationality - If a player is born outside the EU, he will need a work permit to come and play in England. A player is usually granted a work permit if he is a well established international star. There are more likely to be problems if the player is an unknown youngster. Work permits are granted if the player is believed to have a future in professional football and/or has played in the last 75% of his countries international matches.

Height - The players height, this may be integral to the players ability to win headers. The smaller the player, the less chance he can win headers, and more of the chance he?ll be ate by Rick Waller.

Weight - How much your player weighs, you may notice that players that are more of the “playboy” type, come back fatter after the summer break? Get ‘em down the gym

Technical Attributes

Corners - Especially useful for set-piece kings, the higher this value, the higher the corner quality is. Wingers normally take corners, so you may want to look for a winger with high corner ability.

Crossing - A high stat here is necessary to be a good winger, if you can?t cross as a winger then you shouldn?t be there. Fullbacks should have this stat pretty high too.

Dribbling - Again, another stat useful for wingers, although centre midfielders need this too. Strikers also need this, but if you have a strong striker with good heading then you may bypass this.

Finishing - Deadly important for a striker, if a striker can?t finish, then there?s no use to him. Attacking midfielders may also need this stat.

First Touch - A stat that all players should have and need. Classy players normally have this higher. This stat means their first touch when receiving a pass is greater, also improves first touch passing and shooting.

Free-kicks - Pretty simple, how good they are at free kicks.

Heading - A stat that again is useful for all players. Improves heading power and accuracy. Also improves the chances of winning 50/50?s in the middle of the park.

Long Shots - Another simple one, midfielders need this stat to improve their goal tally for the season. The higher this value, the higher the quality of the long shot.

Long Throws - Not really a position related stat, but it’s always good to have a player that can throw the ball far.

Marking - An important stat for all defenders and midfielders. This stat tells you how good a player is at keeping on their man and tracking him.

Passing - Probably the most important part of a players job, passing is a skill that is hard to master, but easy to remember. All players need this, especially midfielders who need to set through the pacy strikers.

Penalty Taking - Duh! Normally strikers are the better penalty takers.

Tackling - Another defensive stat, all defenders will need to know how to tackle. Useful for fullbacks and midfielders too.

Technique - How good the players technique is. If the player has poor technique; the quality of his football is poor and won’t be able to improve very much.

Mental Attributes

Aggression - Every player needs to be aggressive, this value should stand at around 14-15, any higher and the player is too aggressive and will pick up bookings.

Anticipation - This skill is very hard to master and goes well with First Touch. If you have high anticipation, you will be able to tell where the ball is going before its gone there.

Bravery - No-one wants a puff on there team, do they? This will be important while going in for challenges and not bottling them.

Composure - If you have high composure in front of goal, you?ll be able to keep your head and slot one past the goalkeeper. If you have high composure at the back, then your defenders will be able to stick together and work as a team. An important stat for both.

Concentration - A stat which develops with age. Youngsters tend to not concentrate fully on what there doing and lose the ball a lot, if you concentrate then your passes won?t go astray and your tackles will be of a high standard.

Creativity - If you’re a creative player, your ball skills will be very high and you’ll be able to conjour up something magic from no-where.

Determination- You want a team full of determined players, if your team is determined, their morale won’t go as low and they’ll keep working right until the end.

Flair- Trickery, if a player has loads of flair then they’ll be able to showboat and make a fool of the opposition.

Influence - Older, more experienced players tend to have more influence on the squad than the younger members of the team.

Off the Ball - How good a player is at making runs, or spotting them. If a player has a high off the ball stat, he will know where the opposition are, and get in between them.

Positioning - Players with high positioning will be able to tell where a ball is about to land and get in the best position to get it under control.

Teamwork - If all of your players have high teamwork, then your team will work very well and score loads of goals!

Work Rate - You don’t want a player that can’t work. If a player can’t work but can do the occasional thing or two he might be worth a place in the team, but when the weather is bad then he won’t bother.

Physical Attributes

Acceleration - How fast the player can accelerate to his top speed. Especially useful for wingers and speedy strikers.

Agility - How agile the player is. Most likely accompanied with high acceleration and pace.

Balance - How well the player can balance. If the player is fast, most likely he will have lower balance than a stronger one.

Jumping - How well the player can jump. Most strikers and defenders have high jumping. This stat is the major decision factor in deciding who wins 50/50?s

Natural Fitness - A player with low natural fitness is more likely to get injured and not recover fast. Often accompanied with low physical ability and stamina.

Pace - Higher the value, faster the player is.

Stamina - Players with high stamina will tire less fast and not sustain as many injuries.

Strength - If a player is strong, he will be able to win headers well and tackle better.

Goalkeeping Attributes

Aerial Ability - How well the keeper is at collecting crosses or high balls. A keeper is less likely to get lobbed if this attribute is high.

Command Of Area - How well the goalie tells his defenders what to do. A keeper with this stat low is more likely to concede more goals.

Communication - Often accompanying Command of Area, this stat tells you how well the keeper communicates with his defence. If the stat is high, the keeper will be a growling influence from the back.

Handling - How well the keeper can catch. If a goalie has low handling, his tendency to punch will be higher, all keepers should have this stat above 10.

Kicking - A keeper with a good kick is vital to the team, if you play the long ball game. If a goalie can kick well, his kicks will go further and be more accurate.

One on Ones - If the goalie is good at one on ones, then when the striker is running towards him, he’ll be good at narrowing the angle and making himself bigger, the striker will find it harder to score.

Reflexes - How good the goalies reflexes are, if someone throws the ball from point blank range he’ll be able to save it if he has high reflexes.

Rushing out - If a keeper can rush out well, he’ll be able to run out and grab the ball from the feet of the strikers without any problems.

Tendency to Punch - How often the keeper is likely to punch the ball instead of catching it. If the goalies handling is poor, this will most likely be higher.

Throwing - How well the keeper can throw, if the goalie has low throwing, he will kick the ball more often, and vice versa. If both of them are high, you’ve got a keeper with good distribution.

Hidden Attributes

Consistency - Players with low consistency are very erratic, one game they’ll be brilliant, the next time as bad as a chocolate teapot.

Dirtiness - How often the player will break the rules to win the ball, generally you shouldn’t want this in your team.

Important Matches - How well the player deals with the pressure of a high-pressure match. He may get nervous and play badly, or play extremely well.

Injury Proneness - Players with high injury proneness are more likely to succumb to injury. A way to find out how injury prone a player is; is to request a physio report.

Versatility - How well a player will adapt to be played out of position.
