Training was always such a simple job. If you wanted to rest your players, you would just put the team on light training, at the end of the season, onto hard for some intensive training sessions over the close season. Everything was easy, rarely did you have to play around with different training options, assign different coaches, choose different skills and so on. CM4 though, has changed all this.

Yes, the days of training being an unimportant, ornamental feature of Championship Manager are now a distant memory, in the latest installement of the game, if you don't put huge emphasis into training, you will crash and burn. The first step to a good training set up is to get some decent coaches in, if you don't already have that. then start scouring the globe for the next Steve Gritt. Now, enough of the gibberish, lets get on with the show, its time to turn your shoddy, unorganised piss around training sessions, into a high intensity, passionate, efficient regime that will get 110% out of every player in your squad.

First of all, don't be afraid to play around with the training facility in CM4, it is so advanced that you can meddle with it for hours and hours learning what all the different options do. The most important feature though, is the ability to create different schedules and apply them to different players throughout your squad.

But let's forget that for now, first off, if you have just started your game, make sure in the pre-season period you head into the training screen and change your first team and reserve teams training schedule to 'Pre Season', this will prepare them physically and mentally for the start of the season. Don't forget to change this just before the start of the season, as you do not want to head into the new campaign with your players still training Pre Season mode.

The Big Teams: E.g Arsenal

If you manage Arsenal, create a schedule using plenty of tecnique, sprints and 5 a sides etc and give this new schedule to Pires. After a week or so the coach comments that Pires is benefiting from training on his own because of his attitude. Other players get comments saying there not responsible enough to train on there own and need supervision, therefore try different regimes for different players and use your coaches as a guide to how that player is responding to the schedule.

Try setting a reserve schedule full of tecnique, small 5 a sides, Agility etc. All the ones that improve vision, control, passing and so on so the youngsters concentrate on the main skills.

Check your goalie's training, the default misses out shot stopping training and the like, but has him doing things like pig in the middle which won't really benefit the keepers, put in some shot stopping, agility and reflex training to try to optimise performance. Double up on handling, crosses, shot stopping, agility etc.

Assiging Schedules to Players

OK. So youve created a new schedule. If you look at the first training screen with all your players on it. To the rignt you have icons saying 'first team' 'reserve team' and 'goalkeeper'. Below these are your schedules, eg. General, Pre season, no match and any others you may have created yourself.

To assign your whole first team squad to a schedule click on the first team icon and from the drop down menu choose from your schedule.

To assign individual schedules drag and drop from the list onto the player you want. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE ENOUGH COACHES ASSIGNED TO EACH SCHEDULE.

去执行一个个人的去训练计划只要从列表里面选择一个拖动到你想要他执行此计划的球员名字上面松开就行了。请一定要确定你有足够的教练来执行每一个训练计划。

When do i rest my players?

什么时候我让我的球员们休息?

If you are playing with bigger teams, then the players will have more stamina so you can afford to give them less rest periods. With smaller clubs try to give players more rest periods. Make sure you always rest your players the day before a match, training them the day before the match will have an adverse effect on their matchday performance.

General Training Pointers

一般训练的重点

1) Drop all Cross Country excercises. Although its good for stamina, it can have a negative effect on the teams motivation and determination in traiing. Not Convinced? Howard Wilkinson loved Cross Countrys. There we go, thought that would work.

1)放弃所有的cross country 训练,虽然它能够提高队员的持久力,但是它对于球队的动力以及决心有很不好的负面影响在训练中。不相信么?霍华德维尔金森(一个把球队带入降级的教练)曾经喜欢Cross countrys。那么,“以为”他也许会有用处。

2) In place of Cross Country play large 5-a-sides. Good for building up stamina ( makes up for no cross country) but also increases passing and movement.

3) I try and fit 2/3 pig in the middle routines per week. This really boosts morale, the players love it and therefore try harder in the rest of training because there having a good time.

4) Also try a couple of small 5-a-sides because teams with a short passing style will greatly benefit from this. Quick passing and movement - also improves marking and other defensive attributes. Maybe if you play a Direct apporach another schedule would work better.

Make sure you have plenty of Dribbling, Crossing, Sprints and Heading training as your team seems to have a much larger threat if it can utilise effective wing play.

ALSO, dont set a training match too often, this tires players out too much for too little benefit. Try taking it off completely and just use it on occasions if you are conceding too much, to improve communication and so on.

The Smaller Side

You do not actually have to make that much changes to the training regime for a smaller side, the only changes that need to made, are the specific passing elements like 5 a side. If you are a smaller club then make sure you have more large 5 a side sessions as it will improve your quick counters and direct passing. Finally make sure you include a couple of 'Overloading sesssions as this will help your smaller club get more goals.

- If you play a passing style make sure you include lots of small 5 aside sessions.
- There are some basic steps that should go with every team, get rid of the country cross as quick as possible (after season starts).

Finally, the tactical training and a shadow play belongs on friday or staurday morning, also crossing is a very important training shedule because CM4 seems to favour the crossing system when It comes to the 2D engine, so on one day, try: crossing, heading and technique.
