Manchester United and Liverpool have issued a joint statement after it emerged that the ambulance carrying Alan Smith was attacked on Saturday.

The 25-year-old was taken to hospital after suffering a broken leg and dislocated ankle late in Saturday's FA Cup clash, but the vehicle was allegedly pelted with missiles and rocked from side to side by fans outside Anfield.

full-time basis want them to do well.Journalistically, it's in the reporters' interests for United to do well because it's much more enjoyable to be covering a successful club, compared to one that's on the fringes of things or in turmoil.
When United are going through a difficult spell, the papers generally react and mirror what the fans are thinking and saying amongst themselves.
It's a tricky situation because the fans obviously don't like to see United being criticised in print. But, on the other hand, you could argue that the fans are the harshest critics of all simply because they want their team to do well.
Press Pressure

People expect so much of United and that permeates into the newspapers. Fergie knows better than anyone that one defeat for United will be portrayed as a national crisis in the press.

Easter Clashes Set For Live Screening

Two matches from United's Easter programme have been rearranged for live television coverage.

Sunderland's visit to Old Trafford has been brought forward from Saturday April 15th to Friday April 14th - Good Friday - and will kick-off at 7:45pm. The match will be shown live on Pay Per View.
